We walked into the museum off of Woodward. That's not how most people do it, but I'm not most people. I've always had a thing for Medieval arms and armor. The best part of the DIA collection is in what the map refers to as the Great Hall, but I prefer to think of as the Arms and Armor Room. Of course, I also love the Diego Rivera mural in the next hall, so this is the natural entrance for yours truly.
I walked up to the desk. My favorite employee was working that day. I projected the face that DJ would expect to see me wearing into her mind. It would stay there every time she saw me until I removed it. “DJ! How's things?”
She smiled. “Well, you know, Jimbo, livin' the dream. Lemme see your license.” She brushed her red hair out of her face and tucked it behind her wire rimmed glasses.
I handed her my license so she could verify the address on it. Admission to the DIA was free to people who lived in a few local counties because their tax money paid to keep it open. “You got it.”
