Steve pulled out of the parking lot. “Where to?” He made a quick right to avoid the median in the middle of the road. Having grown up with the Michigan Left it didn't bother me. I knew plenty of people who had visited who disagreed. “Who's the chick?”
I had no question as to where we needed to be. “Original destination. Original mission.” I shook my head. “Steve, this is Kaylee. Kaylee, this is Steve. The vehicle may be bugged. We won't be talking much.”
Steve jerked a thumb over his shoulder. “How much does she know?”
“I'm not sure.” I shook my head. “It sounds like nothing.”
Steve gave me a weird look. He could hear what I wasn't saying. “Okay. We should be there shortly.”
I looked over the side of my seat at Kaylee in the back. “We don't have much time, so this is going to be quick. Try to keep up.”
Kaylee nodded. “Um...okay. You know I'm pretty smart, right?”
“Yeah, I had that feeling,” I agreed, “But you need to know some things that are not going to jive with anything you've learned before now. Developing magic was just the beginning.” I watched her eyes get big. “Listen, I'm not sure what those dragon-bug-things are or where they came from. I've never seen a flying saucer before either. What that is and where it came from is beyond me.” I swallowed. That was hard to admit to a noob. “Here's what I do know: Did you sense the evil from that thing?”
