I was thinking about dropping this chapter as it’s a bit info-dumpish. LMK what you think
Chapter 9
"Follow me," I started walking toward a path in the woods, looking back to make sure Kaylee followed. She didn't look too sure of herself but she followed just the same. I saw Steve’s truck disappear onto the paved road we had turned off of a few minutes earlier. "I need you to listen to what I'm telling you, Kaylee. I'm not joking or exaggerating. I'm going to give you a quick primer on the situation as it stands. Well, at least as much as I'm privy to. Pay attention. It's a lot. Ask questions. Understanding is the key to survival. Of course, I just forgot the most important part: Stay undetected until you're ready for a fight." I shook my head to clear it. "Too late now. Backup will be here soon. This is the quick and dirty version. You ready?"
"I guess I have to be, don't I?" She was clearly worried. I hoped she realized how happy it made me when I saw her react that way. Fear is a great motivator and if she didn't stay motivated, she wouldn't last long. And yeah, that's rough. Too bad. She was no good to anyone dead, including herself.
"No one knows how long the vampires have been here or where they come from. They could be a physical manifestation of a spirit here. They may have come from another plane of existence. Like another dimension. Please tell me you like Science Fiction or Fantasy."
