One of the most important skills to have as a physics wielding Force Mage is a basic understanding of high school chemistry. Chemical reactions are powered by electricity. You get a chemical with a positive charge and it will react with a chemical with a negative charge. It’s all about the electrons and how they move. Noble gasses don’t react because they don’t gain or lose electrons. The key to keep our napalm from catching fire was to prevent a chemical reaction. I used magic to make a two inch thick zone where electric activity didn’t take place at the top of each trash can, with half of it submerged. If the air above the napalm couldn’t react and the napalm on the top couldn’t either, there wouldn’t be any reaction. Nothing would burn. I anchored the spell on the insides of the cans. They were as safe as I was going to be able to make them.
Just as I finished sealing the cans, I heard a car pulling up behind me. I turned around to see Cedar pop out of the rear passenger door. Cedar had red hair and a smile that looked like it belonged on Mr.Hyde five seconds after he ate Doctor Jekyll. Cedar was an Alchemist, so that made sense. It’s not so much that Alchemists are mad scientists. It’s more like Alchemists are what mad scientists want to be when they grow up.
